New Britain Museum of American Art

New Britain, CT

The New Britain Museum of American Art (NBMAA) is an art museum in New Britain, Connecticut. Founded in 1903, it is the first museum in the country dedicated to American art. The Projects Group began supporting the NBMAA in 2022 on various capital improvement projects, varying in size from studies under $20,000 and construction projects over $1 million.

The initial project was a phased renovation project to the historic Landers House constructed in before 1910, and designed in the Arts and Crafts style with Spanish Mission revival characteristics. The house was converted to the museum building in 1937. The structure is listed as a contributing resource in the West End Historic District of New Britain.

Most planned projects utilize a variety of grants from the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO). The Projects Group has consulted with the NBMAA to utilize SHPO’s funding to improve the historic preservation of the property.

Additional projects include: Planning the renovation of the original Landers House Spanish Roof Tile and reconfiguration of the humidification infrastructure, including installing a state of art MeeFog system.
